Why Possum Holler?

It’s where I grew up in Indiana.  County Road 350 South drops down a winding country road south of Greencastle off State Route 231 past Deer Creek into Possum Holler.  The family property, owned by my brother Jay and next door to Uncle Jack and his clan, still has the old house where my grandparents raised a bunch of kids, grandkids, great grandkids, great great … you get the idea.  The ole outhouse is still there too, barely.  I wouldn’t recommend it any more.  It looks like it’s about to fall backwards over the hill.

Very soon I’ll be posting on a brand spankin’ new family web site – www.possum-holler.com.  Yes, you do have to have the hyphen or dash between possum and holler.

The site will have some of my writings, stories, pictures, family information (both Allee and Krell), stuff from Karen, history, general science, astronomy and of course some humor.  All the family photos that I’ve scanned or acquired (both Allee and Krell again) will soon be available for download.  They’ll be in jpeg format linked to a ftp site so you can copy the files to your computer and take them anywhere to have prints made.  Don’t worry, it’ll be simple, choose and click to download as much as you want.  I’ll even make an occasional video available like the ones I made for Pop’s 80th Birthday in August 2008 and his celebration service after he passed away in October.

A couple of notes to help you understand the site.

1 – Your e-mail addresses are kept strictly confidential.  They are used only to respond to your comments directly if I choose and never shown on the website.  They are ONLY visible to me AFTER I log into the maintence section of the website to respond and are not sold by, stored or visible to the web hosting service.

2 – When I do publish my personal e-mail addresses, they will look something like this - ”travelingbob “at” cox “dot” net”.  This is to keep junk mail searchs from tracking my e-mail through the website until I can afford a good anti-phishing software soon. E-mail translation - ”at is the @ sign and “dot” is the period.

I should have the basic site completed by the end of November.  Visit often, share your ideas, thoughts, opinions and of course your own stories.  Karen & I look forward to hearing from you.
